Hawker jailed for assaulting public officers
********************************************

An illegal hawker was sentenced to one month's imprisonment by the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (December 14) for assaulting public officers.

The incident took place shortly after midnight on November 21 last year when the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) was conducting a raid against illegal hawking at Fung Ha Road, Chai Wan.

The illegal hawker was also fined a total of $1,200 for hawking without a licence and causing obstruction in a public place.

At the same time, a woman was also fined $900 by the court for assaulting public officers in the same incident.

"Use of force against public officers is not only wrong, but also carries serious legal consequences," the spokesman warned.

"Members of the public should co-operate with law enforcement officers in the execution of their duties."
