Four employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (December 13) obtained an order for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $69,000 against one employer in the District Court.  Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $50,000 on behalf of six employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued a judgment against  Sun Lik Printing Company Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $69,436.42, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to two employees of the defendant. The District Court also ordered the defendant to pay the MPFA the sum of $5,000 as financial penalty.

     At the Tribunal﷿s hearing today, the defendants, WTA Hong Kong Company Limited, Kei Kei Curtain Company Limited and Gold Merit (China) Limited trading as Onion Cafン & Restaurant, did not appear.  In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $44,232.09, $5,172.3 and $1,445.25, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees﷿ MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the Tribunal respectively further awarded payments of $930 for the District Court case and $186, $260 and $106 as the costs in respect of the claims.
