A pre-tour concert of 䩕Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra Guangdong and Macao Tour蒅 with 2004 Champion of Ernest Chausson Concours Internationaux de Violon Huang Yi as the guest violin soloist, will be held at 3pm on Christmas Eve (December 24) at the Auditorium of the Kwai Tsing Theatre.
Organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department the music exchange concerts aims to foster international cultural exchange and widen the horizons of local young musicians.
Under the baton of the Music Office instructors Ng Ka-ming and Pak Wing-heng, the orchestra will perform a number of works including Johann Strauss Jr﷿s most popular work, Overture to 䩕Die Fledermaus蒅, Tchaikovsky﷿s Fantasy Overture to 䩕Romeo and Julie蒅 and the romantic and nationalistic 䩕Vltava蒅 from 䩕M⯳ vlast蒅.
Not to be missed are 䩕Edinburgh Place蒅 by Lin Sheng-shih and the theme music of the animated epic film by the same title, 䩕The Prince of Egypt蒅. The work has tapped into the ancient reminiscences of melodious Middle East music and Hebrew folk songs, and mingled with elements from Broadway musicals.
Huang Yi will present a world-renowned piece 䩕Violin Concerto No.1, Op. 19蒅, by Prokofiev with the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Since its establishment in 1978, the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Music Office has been providing orchestral training for advanced level young musicians in Hong Kong. Over the years, many of the young players in the Orchestra have become eminent professionals in Hong Kong.
The orchestra has collaborated with many conductors and soloists of international acclaim. As music ambassador of Hong Kong, the orchestra has completed successful concert tours to France, Israel, Cyprus, United Kingdom, Australia, Mainland China, United States and Singapore. These tours not only meant to facilitate international cultural exchange, but also aimed at elevating the musical standard, as well as broadening the vision of young musicians in Hong Kong.
The pre-tour concert is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Tickets priced at $60 and $40 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-priced concessions are available to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
