Withdrawal of Current Definitive Stamps and Issue of New 2006 Hong Kong Definitive Stamps

A set of new 2006 Hong Kong Definitive Stamps featuring wild birds found in Hong Kong will be issued on December 31, the Postmaster General, Mr Tam Wing-pong, announced today (December 4).

"It is really a miracle that one can find more than 460 bird species here in Hong Kong despite its usual image as a city of crowded skyscrapers and busy city life style," Mr Tam said. "Hong Kong is, in fact, equally kind to birds of all feathers, offering food, shelter and breeding ground to residents and seasonal visitors as well as migrants in transit. The 2006 Hong Kong Definitive Stamps portray a cross-section of the wide spectrum of birds which enliven the city with the colours and music of Nature."

The stamps and associated philatelic products will be on display at the General Post Office and the Tsim Sha Tsui, Tsuen Wan and Shatin Central post offices as from December 11 for advance information by the public.

The current set of definitive stamps issued in 2002 will be withdrawn from general sale at close of business on December 30, but they can continue to be used for prepayment of postage.0
