Greenray Theatre (Taiwan) will perform David Auburn's Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning drama "Proof" in Hong Kong in January, 2007.

The drama, which has enjoyed wide acclaim among the literary and academic circles in Taiwan, will be staged at 7.45pm on January 12 to 14 (Friday to Sunday) and at 3pm on January 13 at the Studio Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

The drama is jointly directed by Ko I-cheng and Lo Pei-an and played by Lo Pei-an, Yao Kun-chun, Lang Tsu-yun and Fan Kuang-yao.

Catherine's father is a brilliant mathematician suffering from mental illness. To take care of her father, she gives up her studies to live with him in a closeted world. After her father dies, Catherine's sister believes Catherine has inherited their father's madness, and insists on taking her away. Hal, who falls in love with Catherine while sorting out his teacher's manuscripts, does not believe that the earthshaking new theory recorded in the notebooks were Catherine's work. Faced with the doubts of the two, how can Catherine prove herself?

The play was made into movie in 2005, directed by John Madden and starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Anthony Hopkins

Founded in 1993, Greenray Theatre ignited an enthusiasm for musicals in Taiwan with its early works of original Chinese musicals. Some of their best known productions, like "Neckties & High-heeled Shoes", "Blame It All To the Conscription" and "A Dizzy Woman, I Do I Do!", broke box office records and the number of runs, with the show being taken to as far as New York and Beijing. Since 2000, the company has staged the Human Condition series, warming many hearts with its treatment of themes of humanity. More recently, it introduced the "World Theatre" series, a contemporary new creation on the worldwide drama scene, for which it has received wide acclaim. "Proof" is an exemplary production in this series.

One of the programmes in the 6th Chinese Drama Festival, "Proof" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be performed in Putonghua with Chinese and English subtitles.
