Blitz operation against sale of chilled poultry as fresh poultry (with photo)

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (November 21) warned all fresh provision shop and market poultry stall operators not to sell chilled or frozen poultry as freshly slaughtered poultry, or they would risk having their licences/tenancy agreements cancelled or terminated.

This followed a blitz operation in Western District this morning, during which two poultry stalls, nos. P1 and P6, at Smithfield Market, were found to be selling chilled chickens as freshly slaughtered chickens.

"We will consider terminating the tenancy agreement of the poultry stalls as the operators have breached the condition in the tenancy agreement.

He said the department would continue to monitor the sale of poultry at the retail level and take stringent enforcement action to safeguard food safety and public health.

"Anyone who has doubts about poultry being sold at retail outlets should call the department's hotline at 2868 0000," he said.
