The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, will leave for Hanoi, Viet Nam on Thursday (November 16) to attend the 14th Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to be held on November 18 and 19.
The theme of this year's meeting is "Towards a dynamic community for sustainable development and prosperity".
The economic leaders will have in-depth deliberations on a wide range of economic issues, including the role of APEC to push for the resumption of the World Trade Organization Doha Development Agenda negotiations and the implementation of the Busan Roadmap to achieve the Bogor Goals.
They will also discuss fundamental issues that are of great importance to growth and sustainable development in member economies, such as the development of human resources, and information and communications technology, measures to strengthen co-operation in health security, disaster preparedness, counter-terrorism, and anti-corruption.
Mr Tsang will attend the APEC CEO Summit on November 17, at which President Hu Jintao will deliver a keynote speech. He will join the Leaders' Dialogue with the APEC Business Advisory Council on November 18.
The Hong Kong, China delegation will include the Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr Joseph Wong; the Permanent Secretary for Commerce Industry and Technology (Commerce Industry), Miss Yvonne Choi; and the Acting Director-General of Trade and Industry, Mr Clement Leung.
The Chief Executive will be accompanied by the Director of the Chief Executive's Office, Mr John Tsang; the Private Secretary to Chief Executive, Mrs Jessie Ting; and the Information Coordinator, Mr Andy Ho.
Mr Tsang will return to Hong Kong on November 19. During his absence, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Rafael Hui, will be the Acting Chief Executive.
