A shipping mission, led by the Permanent Secretary for Economic Development and Vice-chairman of the Hong Kong Maritime Industry Council (MIC), Ms Eva Cheng, today (November 12) set off for a four-day visit to Tianjin and Qingdao to promote Hong Kong's shipping and maritime services and to explore business co-operation.
The visit will help strengthen co-operation between the maritime communities in Hong Kong and Tianjin/Qingdao, and update the local maritime communities on the latest developments of various shipping and maritime services in Hong Kong.
Two seminars will be organised at Tianjin and Qingdao to promote Hong Kong's quality maritime services to the Mainland audience. Topics covered will include Hong Kong's maritime law and legal services, ship finance, ship broking, marine insurance services, taxation and Hong Kong Shipping Register. Networking receptions and meetings will also be held to provide an opportunity for the mission members to exchange views with their counterparts on business co-operation.
During the visit in Tianjin and Qingdao, Ms Cheng will meet officials of various departments of the Tianjin Municipal People's Government and Qingdao Municipal Government, including communication and port administration departments, as well as shipowners associations, classification societies, and representatives of the maritime, port and logistics industries.
The shipping mission is jointly organised by MIC, Marine Department and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. Members of the delegation include the Deputy Secretary for Economic Development and Labour, Miss Janice Tse, the Acting Deputy Director of Marine Department, Mr Lee Wai-kuen, council members Mr Frank Tsao, Mr Liang Ming-hang, Mr Jim Poon and Mr Raymond Chow, and representatives of various sectors of Hong Kong's shipping and maritime industries.
The delegation will return to Hong Kong from Qingdao on Wednesday (November 15).
