The Hospital Authority Drug Formulary was started in July, 2005, with a view to standardising drug policies and utilisation in public hospitals and clinics. To further improve its mechanism and meet patient needs, a review of the progress and policy of the Formulary was conducted in April this year in the following three major areas:
(1) Mode of Supply of Self-Financed Drug Items
(2) Mechanism of the Safety Net
(3) Mechanism of introducing New Drug Items
Views from the public, patient and professional groups were received via written submissions as well as face-to-face meetings and consultation sessions during the review. The full report of the Review has now been published and can be accessed at http://www.ha.org.hk/hadf.
The authority would continue to partner with various stakeholders to achieve greater safety, efficacy and cost-effectiveness as guided by the best scientific evidence in the development of the Formulary, an authority spokesman said.
