Applications invited for Tuen Mun District sand sculpture competition
**********************************************************

Aspiring sand sculptors are invited to test their skills in this year's Tuen Mun District sand sculpture competition.

Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the Tuen Mun District Sand Sculpture Competition and Sand Sculpture Exchange Programme 2006 will be held at Golden Beach from 1pm to 5pm on December 17.

The competition is an opportunity for sand sculptors to exchange ideas and to build team spirit.

They will also have the chance to appreciate the skills of sand sculptors invited from Kagoshima Hioki City, Japan.

The sand sculpture competition will be divided into four divisions - open, primary students, secondary students and disabled.

Each team should comprise three to six members. In the disabled division, at least half the members of each team should be people with disabilities.

Teams can decide their own themes and will have two hours to create their sand sculptures in an area of about three metres by four metres.

A spade and a bucket will be provided for each team. The participants can also bring along their own tools as long as they are not electrical or mechanical. Ornaments such as shells and stones that will not harm the environment can be used.

Entries will be judged on skill, creativity and aesthetics.

Prizes will be awarded to the winners, first runner-up and second runner-up of each division. All teams will also vie for the overall championship.

Application forms are now available at Tuen Mun District Leisure Services Office, the Jockey Club Tuen Mun Butterfly Beach Sports Centre, Tai Hing Sports Centre, Leung Tin Sports Centre and Yau Oi Sports Centre.

Completed application forms, together with an entry fee of $60, should be submitted by November 24 to the Tuen Mun District Leisure Services Office, 3/F, Tuen Mun Government Offices Building, 1 Tuen Hi Road, Tuen Mun.

A limited number of teams can join the competition and applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. For enquiries, call 2451 3499/2451 0304.
