Asia Cultural Co-operation Forum begins Wednesday
*************************************************

Scholars, artists, creative entrepreneurs, cultural leaders and officials from different parts of the world will gather in Hong Kong to share views and experience on the modernity and transformation of Asia's cultures. They will be attending the Asia Cultural Co-operation Forum 2006 which runs from Wednesday (November 8) to Sunday (November 12).

As the fourth cultural co-operation forum organised by the Home Affairs Bureau, the forum has "Asian Arts, Culture and Modernity" as its theme for this year. Participants will be invited to discuss their experiences in the process of modernisation, particularly reflected in culture and the arts, and explore the idea of an Asian concept of modernity.

Apart from cultural ministers or their representatives from Asian countries, including Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Korea, Japan and Vietnam, a large delegation of senior cultural officials from the Ministry of Culture and 15 provinces and municipals of the People's Republic of China (PRC) will join the forum.

The ACCF 2006 will feature a PRC delegations meeting on Wednesday, an Asian cultural ministers meeting on Thursday (November 9) and a series of 12 open forums around six thematic programmes - "Cultural Ecologies: Communicating Contemporary Art in the 21st Century", "Measuring Creativity, Happiness and Well Being", "Creative Education Summit", "Media Arts in the Contemporary Society", "Experiencing Architecture" and "Asian Arts, Culture and Modernity".

These open forums are co-organised with key local and overseas arts and cultural bodies. They are the Asia Art Archive; the Department of Asia Culture and Religious Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation; Centre of Cultural Policy Research of the University of Hong Kong; the Hong Kong Institute of Contemporary Culture; the Hong Kong Arts Development Council; the Hong Kong Institute of Architects and the Chinese Civilisation Centre of the City University of Hong Kong.

The open forums will be held at the Drama Theatre, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, unless specified otherwise. Please visit the official website of the ACCF 2006 (http://www.accfhk.org) for details, or call 2559 9973 for enquiries.
