The Secretary for the Civil Service, Miss Denise Yue, visited the Eastern District this afternoon (July 4) to see for herself how people live and work in the district.
Miss Yue was accompanied by the Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Pamela Tan and the District Officer (Eastern), Mr Herman Cho and first stop was the Shau Kei Wan Kaifong Welfare Advancement Association where they toured the facilities.
Miss Yue then walked along Shau Kei Wan Main Street East and inspected the street beautification works funded by the Eastern District Council. Shau Kei Wan Main Street East, one of the oldest streets in Shau Kei Wan district, forms part of the Eastern District Tourist Trail. It has a number of historical and cultural spots, including some Chinese temples, church, and old groceries. Miss Yue took the opportunity to drop in a number of shops along the street and chatted with the shopkeepers.
At her next stop, Miss Yue visited the Po Man Street Post Office, where she met the staff to gain a better understanding of their daily duties. She also toured the cluster of eateries at So Ho East.
The final stop of her visit was the Hong Kong Film Archive. After touring the Archive Building, Miss Yue exchanged views with people visiting the film library.
