Tai Po Hospital Norovirus Cases
*******************************

Regarding earlier announcement of some patients and staff members in a Medical ward and two Orthopeadic wards presented with vomiting and diarrhoea symptoms, the spokesperson of the Tai Po Hospital (TPH) gave the following update today (2 July 2006).

Three female patients (aged 72-92) from another Medical ward of the hospital have presented with vomiting and diarrhoea symptoms since 24 June 2006. The patients are now in stable condition and being treated under isolation.  The test result of one of the patients was positive to Norovirus.  Results of the rest of the tests are pending.

Admission and visiting to the ward concerned have been suspended and measures to restrict discharge activities implemented.  Infection control measures have also been stepped up and all patients are under close surveillance.

The TPH Infection Control Team has reported the case to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection.
