North District Hospital vomiting and diarrhoea cases

    The spokesperson of North District Hospital (NDH) made the following announcement today (July 1):

     Since 24 June 2006, a total of two patients (aged 42 and 72) and two staff members of a male medical ward in NDH had presented with vomiting and diarrhoea symptoms. Test results of one staff member and one patient were positive to Norovirus. One of the staff members is on sick leave.  The two patients and the other staff member are being treated in isolation and in stable condition.

     Infection control measures have already been enhanced. The ward will suspend admission and discharge for the time being. Visiting is also suspended. All patients and staff members in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and Centre for Health Protection for
