Kwong Wah Hospital update on Norovirus cases

    Regarding a Medicine & Geriatric ward in Kwong Wah Hospital (KWH) in which there were one female patient and four staff members with diarrhoea or vomiting symptoms, the hospital announced the following announcement today (1 July 2006):

     There is one more 96-year-old female patient in the ward presented with diarrhea symptoms.  The patient is being treated under isolation and in stable condition. Appropriate test is being carried out, and the laboratory test result is pending.  Since 23 June 2006, there are a total of 2 patients and four staff members presented with similar symptoms.  Test result of one of the patients was positive to Norovirus.

     Infection control measures have already been enhanced.  There will be no new admission to the ward for the time being.  Restricted visiting policy has been implemented.  All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
