Caritas Medical Centre gastroenteritis cases

    A Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) spokesperson made the following announcement today (June 30):

     One patient (aged 78) and five staff members of a female medical ward have presented with symptoms of gastroenteritis since June 26. The patient is in a stable condition and is being treated under isolation. The five staff members are now on sick leave. The hospital has arranged appropriate tests for the patient and staff concerned. Results are pending.

     Admission to the ward has been suspended and visiting arrangements remain normal. Infection control measures have been stepped up in the ward. All patients are under close surveillance.

     CMC Infection Control Team has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection.
