Castle Peak Hospital press release on diarrhea cases update

    Regarding the recent cases of patient and staff member presented with vomiting or diarrhea symptoms in a female admission ward in Castle Peak Hospital (CPH), the hospital announced the following update today (June 28):

     There is no new case reported from the concerned ward today.  Test result of one of the patients was positive for Norovirus.  Apart from this, there are five patients (aged 27-46) presented with vomiting or diarrhea symptoms in another male intellectual disability ward since June 24, 2006.  The patients are in stable condition and have been transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment under isolation.  Appropriate test has been carried out for the patients and results are pending.

     Admissions to the above wards are being suspended while visiting arrangement remains normal.  All other patients in the wards concerned are under close medical surveillance.  Infection control measures have been enhanced.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
