The spokesperson of Tai Po Hospital (TPH) made the following announcement today (25 June 2006).
Following earlier notification that a member of staff and some patients in an Orthopeadic ward and a Medical Ward of the hospital have presented with vomiting and diarrhea symptoms, one more member of staff and two more patients (1 male, 2 female, aged 71 to 75) have presented with similar symptoms today. They are now in stable conditions. The staff member is now on sick leave while the two patients are under isolation. Test results are pending.
Admission to the two wards concerned has been suspended. And both wards have implemented measures to restrict visiting and discharge activities. Infection control measures have also stepped up and all patients are under close surveillance.
The TPH Infection Control Team has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection.
