MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for three employees
*************************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 22) pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $57,000 on behalf of three employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

At today's hearing, the defendants - Kayart Bus Limited, Chiu Hon Yam and Yung Chun Ho Taky trading as Kam Hon Restaurant and Wai Keung Construction (Hong Kong) Company Limited - did not dispute the amounts claimed.  The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of  $32,765.59, $13,755 and $10,558.84, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA.  The court further awarded payments of $110, $160 and $90 as the costs in respect of the claims.

Wai Keung Construction (Hong Kong) Company Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to two counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $8,000.
