Appointment of members to Statistics Advisory Board

    The Government announced today (May 30) the following re-appointments and appointments to the Statistics Advisory Board for a period of two years from June 1, 2006 to May 31, 2008:

     A government spokesman said, "We are delighted that the nine incumbent members and six new members have accepted the re-appointment and appointment respectively.  We are confident that the team of new and serving members, with their expertise and background in different sectors, will provide valuable contributions to the work of the Board."

     "We are also grateful for the contributions that the retiring members, Mr Anthony Lau Ting-yin, Mr George Leung Siu-kay, Mr Henry Wu King-cheong, Mr Li Yun-tai and Mr Yeung Kwok-keung, have made in the development of government statistical activities during their terms of appointment," the spokesman added.

     The Statistics Advisory Board is a non-statutory advisory body established in 1972 to advise on matters pertaining to official statistical work.  The Board is chaired by the Commissioner for Census and Statistics and consists of both official and non-official members.  While the composition of official members represents Government interests in regard to statistics on economic and social fronts, the non-official members offer a balanced representation from businesses, the academia and the community.  Views of three sectors, namely data users, raw data suppliers and statistical scientists are thus integrated.
