Attempted suicide at Tai Lam Centre for Women

    A prisoner who attempted suicide was found by staff of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) hanging with a piece of bed sheet tied to a pipeline inside the laundry of Tai Lam Centre for Women (TLCW) at 6.05pm yesterday (May 23).

     The 54-year-old prisoner, surnamed Leung, was immediately lowered and given first-aid treatment by CSD and medical staff. She was sent by ambulance to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment.

     Police have been informed of the incident. An investigation is being conducted by the CSD.

     Leung was convicted of wounding with intent and was sentenced to a five-year jail term. She was admitted to the TLCW on August 30, 2005.
