Three employers order to pay MPF

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 23) obtained an order for payment of outstanding MPF contributions owed to seven employees of about $160,000 against an employer in the District Court. The MPFA today also pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $14,000 on behalf of two employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued a judgment against one employer, namely, Luk Wai Kwong and Kan Wai On Thomas trading as Tsuen Tat Engineering Company. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $161,189.98, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to seven employees of the defendant.

     At the tribunal, the two defendants, Fine Projects Limited and Choices Limited trading as Yat Lung Garment Factory, did not appear at the hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of  $7,756.04 and $7,379.62, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the Tribunal further awarded payment of $970 for the District Court case and $320 and $240 for the Tribunal cases as costs in respect of the claims.
