Five employers ordered to pay MPF

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 19) obtained five orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions owed to 17 employees at around $510,000 against five employers in the District Court. The MPFA today also pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $50,000 on behalf of five employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued judgments against five employers, namely, Po Hing Hong Shipping Agent Company Limited, Wong Yat Chun Trading as Top Trend, Way House Limited, Cheng Kam Wah trading as Sun Kee Transportation Company and Lai Wing Lok trading as Foon Lok Sea-food. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $139,986.58, $123,269.5, $88,981.5, $84,343.42 and $80,665.02 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to four, two, four, three and four employees of the defendants respectively.

     At the tribunal's hearing today, the two defendants, Bonne Bonne Limited trading as CC Boy Contemporary Chiuchow Bistro and Asia Team Holdings Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $44,628.54 and $8,204.6, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the tribunal respectively further awarded payments of $930 for each of the five District Court cases and $170 and $80 for the tribunal cases respectively as costs in respect of the claims.
