Two women fined for assaulting public officers
**********************************************

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) has appealed to members of the public to co-operate fully with its officers in their enforcement of public cleanliness regulations.

The appeal was made after a Filipina was sentenced to one months' imprisonment and fined $1,500 and her female employer was fined $15,000 today (May 12) by the Eastern Magistrates' Courts for assaulting and wounding public officers.

The incident took place at 9B Bonham Road on September 5 last year, when FEHD officers were conducting a blitz operation against those who contravened public cleanliness regulations.

A department spokesman said that a dog walked by the Filipina was found to have soiled the street with its faeces. "When asked by an FEHD officer for her personal particulars, the Filipina refused to cooperate. She and her female employer then assaulted and wounded three public officers," a department spokesman said.

"Use of force against public officers is not only wrong, but also carries serious legal consequences," the spokesman warned.

"Members of the public should fully co-operate with law-enforcement officers."
