MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for 13 employees

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 10) pursued 11 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $250,000 on behalf of 13 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At today's hearing, two defendants, Chi Wo Engineering Company Limited and City Pipe Technologies (Hong Kong) Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed.  The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $38,665.58 and $24,466.37 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other nine defendants - New Great Well Property Agency Limited, Choi Kee Construction Limited, Global Travel Holdings Limited, Mok Leung trading as Tung Man Trading Transportation Limited, T & T International (Group) Limited, Full Gain Industries Limited, City One Services Management Limited, Tine Travel International Services Company Limited and M & J Corporate Services Limited - did not appear at today's hearing.  In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of  $49,355.01, $43,470, $27,772.6, $25,112.74 $16,240.95, $15,456.43, $10,192.7, $3,570 and $789.02, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA.  The court further awarded payments of $180, $110, $280, $300, $280, $120, $230, $190, $90, $260 and $250 as the costs in respect of the claims.

     City Pipe Technologies (Hong Kong) Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to three counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $12,000.
