Jazz Up series 2006 to star Eugene Pao quintet and Manhattan Transfer
************************************************************

The Jazz Up series 2006 is coming soon! Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the series starts in June with "Eugene Pao Special Quintet" and "The Manhattan Transfer".

The opening concert, "Eugene Pao Special Quintet", will be staged at 8pm on June 7 (Wednesday) at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall. The local renowned jazz extraordinaire Eugene Pao will perform with his jazz friends - Tots Tolentino (saxophone), Ted Lo (piano), Peter Scherr (bass) and Tamaya Honda (drums).

Eugene Pao is the first jazz artist in Hong Kong to sign with major international labels. He has made five solo albums, six group albums and has been featured on numerous albums for local pop stars as well as composed many film soundtracks and TV commercials.

Pao travels the world for performances at international jazz festivals, concerts, jazz clubs and for recording projects. His latest release was recorded in Denmark with top European jazz musicians Mads Vinding and Alex Riel.

Following the Eugene Pao Special Quintet is the legendary American jazz vocal group, The Manhattan Transfer, at 8pm on July 1 (Saturday) at the Auditorium, Kwai Tsing Theatre.

Formed by Tim Hauser (bass), Janis Siegel (alto), Cheryl Bentyne (soprano) and Alan Paul (tenor), Manhattan Transfer can handle almost everything from R&B and jazz, to swing and pop. Although they are all extremely different individuals, their greatest achievement has been the merging of the four voices into a cohesive whole. In the past decades, they have won 12 Grammy Awards in various categories.

Eugene Pao Special Quintet tickets, from $150 to $300 and The Manhattan Transfer tickets from $150 to $450, are available at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients (limited tickets for students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
