The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) is appealing to people with either type A or O blood groups to come forward and donate blood.
The appeal has been made because of the continuing high demand for type A and O blood. The BTS forecasts that on top of the daily requirement of 700 donations, an extra 50 donors each for type A and O blood group will be necessary each day to maintain an adequate reserve of these two blood types, especially to meet the local blood supply for patients in need during the upcoming holiday periods in May.
To encourage people to give blood during the holidays in May, the BTS will organise the "Happy Blood Donation Days in May" activity. Some blood donor centres will provide service during holidays (as per the table attached), and the BTS will also present a special souvenir - "Trendy Blood Donation Umbrella" (see photo attached) to donors who give blood on the specified dates while stock lasts.
The BTS will also organise the "Blood Donation Happy Hour at Causeway Bay Donor Centre" activity in May 2006. Donors who visit the Causeway Bay Donor Centre at 3rd Floor, Radio City, 505 Hennessy Road to give blood from Monday to Friday in May will also be presented with a special souvenir.
