Tsuen Wan Automatic Weather Station launched (With photos)
**********************************************************

The Tsuen Wan Automatic Weather Station, jointly built and operated by the Hong Kong Observatory and the Sik Sik Yuen-sponsored Ho Koon Nature Education and Astronomical Centre, was officially opened today (April 25) to provide the public with weather information for the Tsuen Wan area.

The Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Mr C Y Lam, attended the celebration for centre's  10th anniversary and officiated at the opening ceremony of the Tsuen Wan Automatic Weather Station. "Tsuen Wan is a densely populated area and there is a definite need for weather information," Mr Lam said.  "We are glad to have the co-operation of the Ho Koon Nature Education cum Astronomical Centre in building an automatic weather station there. We hope the data from the station can satisfy the public need for weather information in the region."

The automatic weather station is equipped with instruments for measuring temperature, relative humidity, and rainfall. The data collected is made available to radio and television operators for broadcast and also directly to the public through such channels as the Observatory's website and Dial-a-weather service, which are handy ways for the public to plan their activities according to the latest weather conditions.

"With the operation of the automatic weather station, students can obtain very useful weather data and gain a better understanding of the relationship between the environment and ourselves," the Principal of the Ho Koon Nature Education and Astronomical Centre, Mr C T Kwok, said.
