Drugs Seizure at TLCW
*********************

The Correctional Services Department (CSD) was committed to maintaining a drug-free environment to all people in its custody, a spokesman for the department said today (April 13).

Every measure was taken by the CSD to prevent the smuggling of dangerous drugs into, and eradicate any presence of them in correctional institutions, he said.

His comments followed the case of dangerous drugs swallowed by a remand who later discharged them in her stool.

The remand, surnamed Leung, 39, was admitted to Tai Lam Centre for Women (TLCW) on charge of 䩕Trafficking in a dangerous drug蒅 on April 10.

Acting on information that Leung might have swallowed some drugs, CSD officers put her in an isolation cell for close observation.

A total of seven packets of suspected halcion wrapped in plastic sheets were discharged in Leung﷿s stool today.

The CSD was still investigating whether Leung still concealed more dangerous drugs.

The case has been reported to Police.

The spokesman said that in 2005 there were 88 seizures of dangerous drugs in 2005, mainly in the reception centres.
