Beware of Improper fire safety advice
*************************************

The Fire Services Department (FSD) today (April 13) called on people to be aware of salesmen of fire service equipment, particularly portable fire extinguishers, who may be giving improper fire safety advice.

A department spokesman said that it had come to the notice of the department that people claiming to represent certain "associations" or "centres" dedicated to fire safety had been touting their wares after talks purportedly on fire safety.

"What we are concerned with is whether the information conveyed is accurate. In fact, proper fire safety advice can be obtained from the FSD free of charge, "he added.

District Fire Safety Carnivals are regularly held jointly with District Fire Safety Committees to ram home the message of fire safety.

In addition to various fire safety publicity drives, open days at fire stations are another avenue by which the public can obtain information on fire safety, he said.

Any organisation, firm or school that seeks fire safety talks and knowledge is welcome to call the department's Community Relations Division on 2417 5707 for assistance.
