IPCC report being studied
*************************

Following the release of the report today (April 8) by the Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC) on the leakage of personal data on the Internet, a government spokesman said the Administration would study the report in detail and consider what follow-up actions were required and whether there had been any misconduct by the civil servants involved.

"We appreciate and support the actions taken by the IPCC in dealing with the incident and will continue to provide all necessary support to it in taking forward the remedial measures as outlined in the report," the spokesman said.

"We understand that the IPCC has forwarded the report to the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, who is conducting an investigation into the incident under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. We will keep in view the results of the Privacy Commissioner's investigation," he said.
