Promising cellist Trey Lee to give recital
******************************************

Trey Lee, the first Chinese champion of the prestigious International Antonio Janigro Cello Competition in Croatia, in 2004, will give a recital in Hong Kong next month (May).

The performance will be at 8pm on Thursday (May 4) at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall.

The rising star will play Tartini's "Variations on a Theme by Corelli"; Brahms' "Sonata in E Minor for Cello & Piano, Op. 38"; Popper's "Hungarian Rhapsody, Op. 68"; Schumann's "Five Stucke im Volkston, Op. 102" and Chopin's "Introduction & Polonaise Brillante, Op. 3" with piano accompaniment by Noreen Polera.

One of the most compelling young artists of our time, Trey Lee has garnered wide attention for his playing that combines intellectual sophistication with emotional sensitivity. He has performed at festivals, concert halls, and orchestras across continents after winning the International Antonio Janigro Competition. He has appeared at the world's major venues such as the Lincoln Center in the US, Moscow's Kremlin, Madrid's Auditorio Nacional and Helsinki's Finlandia Hall.

Born into a musical family, Lee started learning piano at four and cello at nine. He then entered the Juilliard School in the US at 12 and became the youngest winner of the New York Olga Koussevitsky Piano Competition. Lee is now studying under renowned Swedish cellist Frans Helmerson.

"Cello Recital by Trey Lee" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
