Customs seize a live bird (with photo)

    Customs officers of Lo Wu Control Point found upon an incoming passenger arriving from Shenzhen a live 䩕Hwamei蒅 at a value of $100 at 3.10pm this (March 25) afternoon. One 35-year-old local male passenger was arrested.

     The arrested passenger together with the seizure were referred to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for follow-up action.

     Members of the public are reminded to have import licence from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department before importation of live birds into Hong Kong. Any illegal importing of live birds will be liable to prosecution under the Public Health (Animals and Birds) Ordinance, Chapter 139. The maximum penalty is a fine of $25,000.
