Nine employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 22) pursued nine claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $250,000 on behalf of 38 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At today's hearing, four defendants - Hin Sum Manpower Company Limited, Nam Tai Security Company Limited, Genesis Engineering Company Limited and Worldee Engineering Company Limited - did not dispute the amounts claimed.0The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $49,604.27, $47,354.04, $33,154.3 and $22,759.89 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other five defendants - WTA Hong Kong Co Ltd, Cheung Tim Cheung trading as Tsui Fu Hin Restaurant, (BPS) Barcode Printing and Packaging Service Company Limited, Team Honest Development Limited and Boss Design & Decoration Limited - did not appear at today's hearing.  In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $44,276.32, $32,256, $16,149, $11,940 and $5,407.18, being mandatory contribution in arrears and surcharge payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA.  The court further awarded payments of $160, $160, $280, $290, $170, $205, $260, $90 and $250 as the costs in respect of the claims.

     Hin Sum Manpower Company Limited and Nam Tai Security Company Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to six counts and four counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and were fined $21,000 and $14,000 respectively.
