Ally formed between The University of Hong Kong and Princess Margaret Hospital on Oncology Service

    The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH), a member of Kowloon West Cluster, Hospital Authority (HA) have entered into agreement in forming long-term partnership in the development and research of cancer treatment, education and training through the establishment of the Cancer Education and Research Centre in PMH.

     A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today (March 18) by Dean of Medicine, HKU, Prof S K LAM; Chief Executive, HA, Mr Shane SOLOMON and Cluster Chief Executive, Kowloon West, HA, Dr Lily CHIU.  Other officiating guest included the Honourable Vincent FANG, Chairman of Kwai Chung & Princess Margaret Hospitals Governing Committee.  

     With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, the partnership between PMH and the Department of Clinical Oncology of HKU will be strengthened in the development of cancer treatment, research, education and professional development.  A Cancer Education and Research Centre will be set up in PMH to dedicate resources to professional training and improving the hospital﷿s patient care.  Moreover, PMH will be serving as a teaching hospital in clinical oncology for medical undergraduates of the University and both parties will collaborate further with the profound clinicians and researchers in evidence-based practice in diagnosing and managing cancers.  Clinical protocols will be formulated and the overall standard of care will be heightened.

     Both HKU and PMH shall work together to achieve mutually beneficial goals to upgrade oncology service in the community.
