Press release on Kowloon Hospital gastroenteritis outbreak update

    Kowloon Hospital spokesman today (March 17) said that earlier it was announced that a total of 11 female patients (aged 50 to 98) and two staff members of a medical ward in the Rehabilitation Building had presented with gastroenteritis and fever symptoms.  All the patients are now in stable condition and seven of them are positive to Norovirus.  They are being treated under isolation.  The two staff are now on sick leave.  

     Today (March 17), there are five female patients (aged 51 to 90) and three staff members of a rehabilitation ward in the Rehabilitation Building presented with gastroenteritis and fever symptoms.  All five patients are being treated under isolation and in stable condition.  The three staff are now on sick leave.  Appropriate test is being carried out.  

     There will be no admission to and discharge from the two wards for the time being.  All other patients in the wards concerned are under close surveillance.  Infection control measures are enhanced. Visiting of the isolated cubicle is suspended temporarily.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
