400 young musicians perform at Music Office Annual Gala

    More than 400 musicians from four orchestras and choirs will perform in the "2006 Music Office Annual Gala" at 3pm on March 26 (Sunday) at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

     The musicians are trainees from the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. They are members of the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra, Music Office Youth Choir, Hong Kong Youth Chinese Plucked String Orchestra and the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra.

     Under the baton of Ms Angelina Au, Ms Chai Hon-fong, Mr Ho Man-chuen, Mr Lam Wing-cheong and Mr Tsui Ying-fai, the trainees will showcase what they have learned. Soprano saxophone soloist, Mr Kenny Chiu, will also join the performance.

     Programme highlights are Tchaikovsky's "Marche Slave", Jansson's "To the Mothers in Brazil", the world premiere of the commissioned work by Music Office "Scenes of Tianshan" and Loo Leung-fai's "Winter".

     Other programmes include Roever and Korb's "Highland Cathedral", Beethoven's "Symphony No.6 "Pastoral", 1st Movement", Jiangsu Folksong "Jasmine", Huang Zi's "Plum Blossom a-seeking in the Snow" and another piece by Loo Leung-fai, "Festive Dance".

     Tickets priced at $60 and $40 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions are available to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
