Sports carnival to promote Community Sports Clubs
*************************************************

People interested in joining Community Sports Clubs or just looking for some sporty activities on a Sunday afternoon are welcome to join a sports carnival held by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) from 1.30pm to 3.30pm this Sunday (March 19) in Shek Kip Mei Park.

Admission to the carnival held in the park on Nam Cheong Road, Sham Shui Po, Kowloon is free.

Participants may join in activities, such as tennis, gateball, sports climbing, indoor rowing, Taekwondo and Tai Chi, and enquire about joining Community Sports Clubs at special booths.

Community Sports Clubs are non-profit-making groups formed and managed by sports enthusiasts. By providing progressive training and organising competitions, these clubs help maintain members' interest in sports and enable members to realise their potential in their chosen sports.

The LCSD has been assisting National Sports Associations in forming Community Sports Clubs since 2001 with the aim of encouraging young people to engage in sports and enhancing the standard of play at the community level. The department has also been providing funds for these clubs to organise training courses and competitions.

So far 27 National Sports Associations have joined the Community Sports Club Scheme and there are now 252 Community Sports Clubs.
