Appeal Board under Betting Duty Ordinance appointed

    The Chief Executive has re-appointed the incumbent chairman and four members to the Appeal Board under the Betting Duty Ordinance. The appointments are for two years with effect from today (March 10, 2006).

     According to the Ordinance, the function of the Appeal Board is to determine appeals lodged by licensees of authorised football betting and lotteries relating to the following:

(a) the variation of the licensing conditions;

(b) the imposition of financial penalty on the licensee; and

(c) the revocation of licence.

     Ms Priscilla Wong Pui Sze, JP, re-appointed as the Chairman of the Appeal Board, is a practising barrister. She is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Appeal Board Panel (Consumer Goods Safety).  She is also a member of the Special Committee on Overseas Admission of the Hong Kong Bar Association.

     Meanwhile, the following four members were re-appointed:

(a) Mr. Cheung Chiu Fan
    - Accountant

(b) Mr. Fung Man Wai, MH
    - Principal of a secondary school

(c) Miss Lau Pui King, JP
    -  Associate Professor of a local university

(d) Ms Judy Tong Kei Yuk
    - Practising barrister

     The appointments have been published in the Gazette today (March 10).
