Clubhouse operator fined
************************

A woman was fined $3,000 today (February 14) at the Eastern Magistrates' Courts for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The court heard that officers of the Office of the Licensing Authority of Home Affairs Department inspected a clubhouse on Gloucester Road, Causeway Bay, in August last year. The officers found that the 23 people in the clubhouse exceeded the maximum capacity as stipulated at condition 6 of the Certificate of Compliance (CoC).

The woman admitted that she was the licensee and proprietor of the premises. She was in contravention of condition 6 of the CoC and subsequently charged under section 21(1)(a) of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

A department spokesman said that enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal clubhouse operations to ensure the safety of patrons of these establishments.
