Budding graphic designers wanted for design competition (with photo)
********************************************************

Primary and secondary school students are being invited to show their creativity by taking part in a graphic design competition run in conjunction with the International Arts Carnival (IAC).

The competition, to design a poster promoting the arts carnival, is aimed at arousing students' interest in design and fostering their creativity.

Running from July 7 until August 13, the arts carnival, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will offer a range of entertainment and educational activities throughout the summer.

This year, the arts carnival will present a cutting-edge Chinese acrobatics performance Heroes by Wuhan Acrobatic Troupe as the opening programme. The Introdans from the Netherlands will bring a remarkable collection of hilarious ballets by renowned choreographers and professional dancers.

The carnival will also showcase performances such as music, dance, drama, puppetry, clowns and film. The popular "ABC, Come and See" and the "HeARTS Linked" series will continue and a new "Comic Wonderland" series will be introduced to bring fun and comic programmmes to families. Other programmes include outdoor fun days, outreach activities, workshops, a youth series, exhibitions and guided tours.

The graphic design competition is divided into two sections: primary and secondary schools. Submissions can be made on an individual or team basis and each entrant may submit more than one design. The work should illustrate the aims of the carnival and encourage children and their families to enjoy the events together.

The size of work should measure 59cm by 42cm for the primary school section, and 76cm by 51cm for the secondary school section.

The adjudication panel consists of art educationists, design professionals and representatives of the International Arts Carnival.

Each award winner will receive a trophy. The winner of each section will be awarded a book voucher worth $1,500. The first and second runners-up will receive a book voucher worth $1,200 and $800 respectively. A Best Cover Design Prize will be chosen from the winning entries and awarded an additional book voucher of $500. Five outstanding entries in each section will receive a book voucher of $500.

All entries should be sent to the Festivals Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department at 5/F, Administration Building, Hong Kong Cultural Centre, 10 Salisbury Road, Kowloon during office hours before April 6, 2006.

Entry forms are available at LCSD's major performing venues or at www.hkiac.gov.hk.
