Club-house operator fined
*************************

A club-house operator, was today (January 24) fined $4,500 at the Eastern Magistrates' Courts for contravening the conditions of the Certificate of Compliance (CoC).

The court heard that officers of the Licensing Authority of Home Affairs Department (HAD) inspected a club-house on Shau Kei Wan Main Street East in July last year. The officers found that the layout of the premises deviated from the registered drawing and the number of guests in the club-house was beyond the maximum licensed capacity.

The club-house operator later admitted under caution that she was the CoC holder. She realised that the number of guests exceeded the maximum capacity as stated in the CoC and the layout of the Club was altered without written permission.

The operator was in contravention of conditions 3 and 6 of the CoC and subsequently charged under section 21(1)(a) of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

An HAD spokesman said that enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal club-house operations to ensure the safety of patrons of these establishments.
