Nominations open for Best Landscape Award for Private Property Development 2006 (with photo)

    To sustain the betterment of living environment in private property by outstanding landscape design and horticultural maintenance, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will organise the Best Landscape Award for Private Property Development 2006 to commend private bodies for their good efforts on greening. Nominations are open until February 20 and there is no entry fee.

     The competition is co-organised by the Home Affairs Department, the Buildings Department, the Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies, the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects, the Institute of Horticulture (Hong Kong), and the Professional Green Building Council.

     An LCSD spokesman said, "the Best Landscape Award for Private Property Development was launched in 2004. The response was overwhelming with more than 100 entries received."

     The LCSD has been committed to promoting the Green Campaign and each year, in addition to implementing extensive planting programmes in its parks to beautify the environment, the department has organised a wide range of activities to promote greening.

     The spokesman said that successful implementation and effective improvement of the overall green environment was not only through the hard work of the government, but also the active participation and support of different sectors of the community.

     The award is exclusively presented to local private residential property or non-residential property. Any individuals, private developers and private bodies in Hong Kong are eligible to nominate properties for the award. The landscape greening areas of the nominated properties must be accessible by the public.

     The award is presented in three categories and each category has two classes and six sub-classes. Details are as follows:

(1) High-density Residential Property (more than 6 storeys)
Class 1: Soft Landscape Design Award
         i) Properties up to 10 years of age
         ii) Properties between 11 and 20 years of age
         iii) Properties over 20 years of age
Class 2: Horticultural Maintenance Award
         i) Properties up to 10 years of age
         ii) Properties between 11 and 20 years of age
         iii) Properties over 20 years of age

(2) Low-density Residential Property (6 storeys or less)
Class 3: Soft Landscape Design Award
         i) Properties up to 10 years of age
         ii) Properties between 11 and 20 years of age
         iii) Properties over 20 years of age
Class 4: Horticultural Maintenance Award
         i) Properties up to 10 years of age
         ii) Properties between 11 and 20 years of age
         iii) Properties over 20 years of age

(3) Non-residential Property
Class 5: Soft Landscape Design Award
         i) Properties up to 10 years of age
         ii) Properties between 11 and 20 years of age
         iii) Properties over 20 years of age
Class 6: Horticultural Maintenance Award
         i)   Properties up to 10 years of age
         ii)  Properties between 11 and 20 years of age
         iii) Properties over 20 years of age

     The winners in each sub-class will receive trophies. Winning entries will be exhibited later.

     Completed registration forms together with all necessary documents should be sent to the Secretariat, Best Landscape Award for Private Property Development 2006, c/o Green Campaign Section, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, 11/F, Leisure and Cultural Services Headquarters, 1-3 Pai Tau Street, Sha Tin, Hong Kong not later than 5pm on February 20.
