People in Vancouver will have an excellent opportunity to experience Hong Kong's rich and diverse cultural heritage early next month, when a fascinating exhibition entitled "The Heritage of Hong Kong" is staged at the Chinese Cultural Centre of the Greater Vancouver.
The exhibition, scheduled to be held between February 2 and 17, depicts 6,000 years of Hong Kong heritage ﷿ from archaeological sites containing pottery and stone implements of Neolithic Period, to the splendid traditional buildings of Chinese and Western styles of more recent times.
Such remains, comprised of different types of cultural heritage like ancient rock cravings, archaeological sites, tomb, historic streets, ancestral halls, study halls, temples, forts, police stations as well as post office, all represent Hong Kong﷿s unique heritage that can only be fully appreciated in the context of its cultural affinity with the South China and influence from the West.
Organised by the cultural centre and presented by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government﷿s Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Canada, the exhibition aims to enable Canadians to appreciate Hong Kong's rich history and unique heritage that verifies Hong Kong as a place of rich and respectable culture.
"This dynamic exhibition will give visitors an enjoyable and educational experience, while promoting Hong Kong as a cultural metropolis," Director of the HKETO Mr Bassanio So said.
The exhibition is part of the "Hong Kong Cultural & Heritage Celebrations" presented by the HKETO in association with the Home Affairs Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government in Vancouver during the Chinese New Year. The Hong Kong Tourism Board at the same will stage a "2006 Discover Hong Kong Year" display at the Chinese Cultural Centre, featuring traditional festivals and new cultural attractions in Hong Kong.
The highlights of the Hong Kong Celebrations include Wushu (martial arts) and Cantonese Opera performances at the Centre in Vancouver for the Performing Arts on February 4 and 5.
