HK Symphony Orchestra to present popular classics

    The Hong Kong Symphony Orchestra will perform popular classics in two concerts next month.

     "The Wonderful World of Music" is a programme of five well-loved titles ﷿ "Joyful Spring", "The Lovely Animals", "Beauty of Nature", "The Happiest Happy Birthday Greeting" and "The Beautiful Sound of Music". Melodies include "Spring Festival Overture", "Dance of the Hours", "Moon River", "Happy Birthday to You", "The Sound of Music", excerpts from "Carnival of the Animals" and many more.

     Also performing are young talents, Chan Hing-hang, Chan Hing-hou, Fung Long-hei and Wong Hei-ching.

     Under the leadership of Ambrose Law, the orchestra's Music Director and Conductor, the Hong Kong Symphony Orchestra is the largest and most versatile performing group under the Hong Kong Symphony Society. The orchestra can be augmented to quadruple-wind scale with more than 100 players. Its wide repertoire covers large-scale and sophisticated orchestral and symphonic works. Besides Western classical music, the orchestra also promotes contemporary Chinese orchestral music and other types of music.

     The concerts, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will be staged at 8pm, February 19 (Sunday) and February 24 (Friday) at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall and Tsuen Wan Town Hall respectively. Tickets priced at $100, $80 and $60 are now available at all URTBIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. (Limited tickets for Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
