The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
The Legislative Council invites interested parties to attend a special meeting of the Panel on Constitutional Affairs to express their views on the role, functions and composition of the District Councils.
Those interested in attending the meeting and giving their views on the subject are invited to send their written submissions to the Clerk to Panel on Constitutional Affairs by Friday, February 10. The special meeting of the Panel on Constitutional Affairs will be held on Saturday, February 18, at 9am in the Legislative Council Chamber. The Administration will issue a consultation document in the first quarter of 2006 to facilitate the review of District Councils.
It should be noted that submissions received will not be covered by the protection and immunity provided under the Legislative Council (Powers and Privileges) Ordinance (Cap. 382) and they will be made available to the media and the public and uploaded onto the website of the Legislative Council unless advised otherwise. Deputations' addresses at the meeting will also not be covered by the Ordinance.
