Five employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment
*********************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 16) pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $88,000 on behalf of seven employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

At today's hearing, four defendants, including City Pipe Technologies (Hong Kong) Limited, Chan Chi Ming, Ho Kai and Siu King Chiu trading as Yeung Shing Restaurant, Ng Bing Kan trading as Ng Bing Kee Construction Engineering, and Tang Mun Yin Dionne trading as Spirit Sports, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $43,361.33, 27,367.98, 8,384.49 and 1,846.23 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

Another defendant, Courage Security Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $7,611.11, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $160, $160, $140, $130 and $240 as costs in respect of the claims.

City Pipe Technologies (Hong Kong) Limited and Courage Security Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Court earlier to five and eight counts respectively of failing to make MPF contributions on time, and were fined $9,000 and $12,000.
