The Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works, Dr Sarah Liao today (January 13) inspected Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation's (KCRC) Fo Tan Depot to see for herself the mounting problem of the equipment underneath some of the East Rail trains and a series of measures taken by KCRC to reinforce those underframe equipment.
Dr Liao was accompanied by KCRC's Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Samuel Lai and Senior Director-Transport, Mr Li Yun-tai.
Earlier, Dr Liao had expressed grave concern over the issue when the incident was reported to the Administration. A special team comprising engineers of the Railway Inspectorate and staff of relevant departments had been immediately set up by the Government to look into the incident and to ensure railway safety.
