Hong Kong Flower Show floral exhibit competition invites entries (with photos)

    The Hong Kong Flower Show 2006, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department,  will be held from March 3 to 12 in Victoria Park.

     The show now invites participants to take part in its floral exhibit competition of which winning entries will be on display for public enjoyment. Applications are free and will be open until January 27.

     The Hong Kong Flower Show is a major event of the department to promote horticulture and the awareness of greening. Every year, it provides a good opportunity for thousands of local citizens and horticulture lovers from all over the world to appreciate the beauty of flowers and share their experiences in the cultivation of flowers.

     Featuring dianthus as its theme flower and the theme "Enchanting Beauty", the event will showcase this exquisite flower and a rich profusion of potted plants, beautiful floral arrangements and gorgeous landscape displays by local organisations and others from the Mainland and overseas. Flowers and other horticultural products will be on sale at the commercial stalls. A rich diversity of educational and recreational fringe activities will also be held for the enjoyment of visitors of all ages.

     The floral exhibit competition, comprising Open and School Categories, is divided into 15 sections and 91 classes. The sections include orchid, Chinese cymbidium, potted plant, cactus and succulent, foliage and carnivorous plant, African violet, bonsai-type plant, Western style and Oriental manner floral arrangements, floral art by school children, and primary and secondary school potted plant growing/nursing.

     Section winners will be awarded trophies. The Hong Kong Flower Show Cups will be awarded to the best exhibits of the Open Section and School Section. A prize presentation ceremony will be held during the show at Victoria Park.

     Completed entry forms should be forwarded to the Secretary, Show Committee of Hong Kong Flower Show 2006, 11/F Leisure and Cultural Services Headquarters, 1-3 Pai Tau Street, Sha Tin, by January 27.
