E-channels rolled out at Airport control point (with photos)
************************************************************

Hong Kong permanent residents (aged 11 or above) holding smart identity cards may use the six e-channels at the arrival hall of the Airport control point for self-service immigration clearance from today (December 30).

The e-channels are open to the travelling public from 10am to 6pm daily during the trial period. The Immigration Department will review the operations with a view to extending the opening hours of these e-channels and adding more e-channels.

Travellers are reminded that if their thumbs are unclean, too dry or too moist, the fingerprint scanner's ability to read their thumbprints may be affected. Unclean thumbs should be cleaned before entering the e-channel. If the thumb is too dry, a wet tissue can be used to dampen it. If the thumb is too moist, it should be wiped with a dry tissue.

For people who have registered their smart identity cards with fingers rather than thumbs, the same fingers should be used for identity verification.
